Each package says when its clock starts — at the first booking or automatically a set number of days after purchase, whichever comes first, or on a set date — so a package bought and never used still starts and ends.
A package's duration counts from the day it starts — not from the day it was bought. Each package says when that day is, under When does the package start? on the package form.
The two options
At the first booking, or automatically — whichever comes first
The default. The package starts when it pays for its first booking — or, if the customer has not booked by then, automatically N days after purchase. N is 30 unless you change it; it can be anything from 1 to 365 days.
A customer can buy in December for a January start and lose nothing: the clock begins when they come. But a package bought and never used does not sit there for ever counting as running — on day 30 it starts, and from then on it runs out like any other.
On a set date
The package starts on a date you choose, whatever day it was bought and whenever the first booking is — the first day of a course, a challenge, a season.
- Bought before the date, it can be used to book classes on or after the set date. It starts on the set date, not at the booking, and a class before the set date cannot be booked with it.
- Bought after the date has passed, it starts on the day it is bought.
A sale keeps the rule it was sold with
When a package is sold — at the desk, by a confirmed transfer, through a claimed offer or by importing your data — the purchase keeps the start rule the package has at that moment. Editing the package later changes sales made after the edit, never the ones before.
The package form shows, for a sale made today, the day it would start on its own — handy for checking a rule before you publish it.
The desk's dates win
Setting a package's start and end dates by hand with Update Package Date starts it on those dates, whatever its rule. An import with dates in the file does the same.
Starting on its own
On the day it is due, a package starts at the beginning of that day in your studio's time zone, and runs its full duration (plus any bonus days from a promotion) from there. Guest passes are created as they are for any package that starts. It is recorded in the customer's Activity as started automatically by Owelz.
Owelz checks again whenever a customer's packages are opened or booked, so a package never shows as Not started after its start day, and a booking never starts it later than its rule says.
Closures move it. If the studio is closed on the day a package would start on its own, it starts on the first day after the closure instead — and the customer is told the new date.
Telling the customer
- In the app and on the website, a package that has not started says when it will: Starts at your first booking, or on 1 Dec at the latest, or Starts on 1 Nov. The same line appears on packages for sale, so customers know before they buy.
- 3 days before an automatic start, the customer gets a reminder in the app, by push and by email — "Your Reformer 10 starts on 4 Oct". If a closure moves the start, they are reminded again before the new date.
- Once it starts, the end date takes the place of the start line. See the customers app.
Choosing a rule
- Class packs and monthly packages: the default, with 30 days — or shorter for a package you sell as "start this month". It keeps the first-booking flexibility customers like and stops unused packages from lingering.
- Courses, challenges, term-based programmes: a set date. Everyone starts together, however early they bought.

أسئلة شائعة
- When does a package start counting down?
- It depends on the package. By default it starts at the customer's first booking, or automatically 30 days after purchase if they have not booked by then — whichever comes first. A package can instead start on a set date, such as the first day of a course.
- If I change a package's start rule, does it change packages already sold?
- No. A sale keeps the rule the package had when it was sold. A change applies to sales made after it.
- Can the desk start a package on a different day?
- Yes. Setting the start and end dates by hand on the customer's profile starts the package on those dates, whatever its rule says.
- Are customers told before their package starts on its own?
- Yes. They get a reminder 3 days before an automatic start, in the app, by push and by email.
