Why bother
A follow-up date is what puts a lead into Due today on the leads page and colours the card on the pipeline. Without one, a lead is in the list but never in anyone's day. The rules guarantee that every lead has a next date, even on the busiest evening when nobody set one.
When a follow-up comes due, the owner gets the Follow-up due notification.
