Vouchers

Unique, single-use codes for a percentage or a fixed amount off any package — given to a group of customers, or sold at the desk as a gift — used at checkout in the customers app or at the desk, and counted when they are redeemed.

A voucher is a code like KY-7Q4M-9X2P for a percentage or a fixed amount off any package, until a date you set. Each code works once. Vouchers come in campaigns, and a campaign is one of two kinds:

  • Given — you choose a group of customers and each gets their own code the moment you create it, in the app, by push and by email. The code is theirs alone: a customer who types someone else's code is told it belongs to another customer.
  • Sold — you set a price, and the desk sells vouchers one at a time. The money goes into the wallet like a package sale. Whoever holds a sold code can use it, so it works as a gift.

Create a campaign

Open Promotions, the Vouchers tab, then New voucher:

  1. Name it, and choose the Discount: a Percent (admins up to 20%, the owner up to 50%) or a Fixed amount in your currency, to the cent (such as EGP 200 or EGP 199.50). Only the owner can give away a fixed amount; admins can sell one. A voucher works on any package.
  2. Set valid until. After that date, unused codes stop working.
  3. Choose Given or Sold:
    • Given: pick the customers — a group Owelz already knows (such as Everyone who ever bought, Churned or Regulars, with its day range where it has one, in one branch or all) or customers you pick by name. Before you create it, Owelz shows how many customers will get a code.
    • Sold: set the price the desk charges for one voucher.
  4. Optionally write the line customers read with their code, in English and Arabic.

Sell one at the desk

On the customer's profile, open the Offers tab and choose Sell voucher. Pick the voucher, how they paid (cash or a digital payment source) and, if you have several branches, the branch the sale counts at. The code appears straight away to copy or read out, and the customer gets it in the app and by email. Anyone whose role can sell packages can sell vouchers.

How customers use a voucher

A voucher is typed wherever a promo code goes:

  • In the customers app and on customer.owelz.com, customers see their vouchers under My vouchers on their profile, with the code, the discount and the end date. Use it opens the packages with the code ready: whichever package they choose, it is applied, and the transfer request is for the discounted price. Paying by transfer, the Voucher code field is always there to type a code into. The notification that brings a voucher opens the same page, and the Packages page reminds them when they have one to use.
  • At the desk, when you sell a package, type the code in the Voucher code field, whatever the payment (cash or a digital payment source). The price updates before you confirm.

A code is typed as it was made, dashes included — capitals or small letters both work, and spaces before or after it are ignored. The price with a voucher is to the cent: 15% off EGP 1,234.50 is EGP 1,049.32 (the percentage is rounded up in the customer's favour), and EGP 200 off EGP 1,234.50 is EGP 1,034.50. A fixed amount never takes a price below zero: with a voucher worth more than the package, the customer pays nothing, has nothing to transfer, and you still confirm the request. On a package the customer has an offer for, they pay the lower price; the voucher is only used if it gave the lower one. The purchase receipt names the voucher, its discount and the price before and after it, and the campaign's Discount given adds up what was really taken off.

Follow a campaign

Each campaign shows how many codes were issued, redeemed and voided, what sold vouchers brought in, and the discount given. Its list of codes shows who holds each one, who used it and when, and which codes are waiting on a transfer. Filter it by Not used yet, Used, Void or, once the campaign is over, Expired. From there you can Void a code that is not used yet, or End voucher to stop the whole campaign. Voiding a sold code pays the buyer back: the price comes off the wallet the way it went in — out of the cash box if it was cash — and the code shows as void. A code waiting on a customer's transfer cannot be voided until you confirm or refuse that transfer. Creating, selling, voiding and ending vouchers are all recorded in the studio's Activity log. The customer's profile shows their vouchers in the Offers tab, and sold vouchers appear in the wallet as Voucher.

Common questions

How is a voucher different from a promo code?
A promo code is one public code that anyone can type, as many times as its limits allow. A voucher is a unique code that works once. A voucher you give belongs to one customer; a voucher you sell belongs to whoever holds it.
Can a customer use a voucher with another offer?
No. Offers never stack: on a package the customer has an offer for, they pay the lower of the offer price and the voucher price. A voucher that is not needed stays unused for next time, and the customer is told so.
What happens while a customer's transfer is waiting for review?
The voucher is held, so it cannot pay for a second package. Approving the payment uses it; rejecting it releases it.
How deep can a voucher go?
A percentage has the same limits as promotions: admins up to 20% off, the owner up to 50%. A fixed amount can be up to 1,000,000 — a voucher worth more than a package makes it free, and nothing is kept for later. Only the owner can give away a fixed amount; an admin can sell one.
Can I take a voucher back?
Yes. Void a code that should not be used, or end the whole campaign: every unused code in it stops working. Voiding a sold code also pays the buyer back what they paid. A voucher that was already used cannot be voided and stays in the records.
